Basic Life sUPPORT
Basic Life Support (BLS) refers to the fundamental medical care provided to individuals experiencing life-threatening emergencies, such as cardiac arrest or respiratory failure. BLS techniques are designed to maintain the patient’s airway, breathing, and circulation until advanced medical help arrives. BLS includes crucial skills like cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), defibrillation using an automated external defibrillator (AED), and techniques for clearing airways in case of choking.
During BLS training, individuals learn to recognize emergency situations, assess the patient’s condition, and perform life-saving interventions. Proper CPR techniques, which involve chest compressions and rescue breaths, are taught to restore oxygenated blood flow to vital organs. Additionally, the use of an AED is trained to restore the heart’s normal rhythm in case of cardiac arrest. BLS training emphasizes the importance of quick and effective response, as timely intervention significantly increases the chances of survival and reduces the risk of long-term complications.
